How to play Trap Jump
The level looks completely ordinary. It is not. Spikes spring out of flat ground, solid-looking blocks give way, and one of those floors is painted on. Eight short levels, and you will die on most of them.
Play Trap JumpThis is a troll platformer: the challenge is not your reflexes, it is that the level is lying about its own layout. Every trap looks exactly like normal scenery until you commit to it, so the first death on a level is how you find out it was there. Levels are short by design — the loop is die, learn, clear it in twenty seconds.
The one thing that is not unfair is the jump. It has coyote time (a jump still works for a moment after you leave a ledge), jump buffering (a jump pressed just before you land still fires), and variable height from how long you hold. The level is allowed to cheat; the controls are not.
It plays with a keyboard or with the on-screen buttons on a phone, runs entirely in your browser with nothing to install, and remembers your progress on your own device.
What you can use it for
- Play a short, mean platformer in a spare two minutes.
- Record your deaths — the traps are far funnier to watch than to survive.
- Try a rage game that is genuinely fair about its controls.
- Play something on a phone one-handed with no download.
- See how few deaths you can finish all eight levels in.
How it works, step by step
- 1
Move
Arrow keys or A and D on a keyboard, or the on-screen buttons on a phone.
- 2
Jump
Space, W, or the jump button. Hold it longer to jump higher.
- 3
Expect the trap
Every level hides one. The first death is how you find it.
- 4
Use the level as a map
Once you know where the trap is, the level takes seconds.
- 5
Take a hint
After five deaths on a level a hint unlocks. It points, it does not solve.
Frequently asked questions
Is this game unfair on purpose?
The levels are, yes — that is the genre. The controls are not: the jump has coyote time, buffering and variable height, so a death is always the level tricking you rather than the game dropping an input.
How many levels are there?
Eight, and they are short. The whole game is a few minutes long once you know where every trap is — getting to that point is the game.
I am stuck on a level.
Die five times on it and a hint button appears. It tells you what to look at without solving it for you.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. There are large on-screen movement and jump buttons, and it plays one-handed in portrait.
Does it save my progress?
Yes, on your own device. Levels unlock in order and your death counts carry across sessions. Clearing your browser data resets it.
Is it free?
Yes — no download, no account, no purchase.
Free, no download and no sign-up. Works on phone and desktop.
