About Duplicate Line Remover

Paste a list and every repeated line is removed, keeping the first occurrence and the original order — with options for case, whitespace, and blank lines.

A list built up over time — pasted from a spreadsheet, merged from two files, exported from an app — almost always ends up with the same entry more than once. This strips the repeats out in one pass, without reordering anything, so the list you get back is the same list, just without the duplicates.

Two lines only count as the same line if they match exactly by default, which is deliberate: "Apple" and "apple" are genuinely different strings, and collapsing them silently could be wrong for case-sensitive data like IDs or code. Turn on "Ignore case" or "Ignore leading/trailing spaces" when the list came from somewhere less exact, like copy-pasted notes.

Blank lines are treated as ordinary lines by default, so a list with several blank lines in a row is reduced to one. If the spacing itself is meaningful, the "Keep every blank line" option leaves every blank line exactly where it was.

What you can use it for

  • Clean up an email list exported from two different sources.
  • Remove repeated entries from a list of URLs, usernames, or keywords.
  • Deduplicate a list of tags or categories pasted from a spreadsheet.
  • Tidy a merged file where the same lines appear from both halves.
  • Check whether a list actually has duplicates before importing it somewhere else.

How it works, step by step

  1. 1

    Paste your list

One item per line, in the box above.

  2. 2

    Set the matching rules

Ignore case or leading/trailing spaces if the duplicates aren't exact matches.

  3. 3

    Copy the result

The first occurrence of each line is kept, in its original order.

Frequently asked questions

Does this change the order of my list?

No. Every line that survives keeps its original position relative to the other surviving lines — only the later duplicates are removed.

Will "Apple" and "apple" count as duplicates?

Not unless you turn on "Ignore case" — by default, matching is exact and case-sensitive.

What happens to blank lines?

They're treated like any other line and deduplicated by default, so several in a row collapse to one. Turn on "Keep every blank line" to leave them untouched.

Is my list uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything runs in your browser — nothing is sent to a server.
