Markdown Previewer

About Markdown Previewer

Type or paste Markdown and see it rendered live, side by side — including GitHub-flavored extras like tables, task lists and strikethrough. Runs entirely in your browser, so a README you haven't published yet never has to leave your machine.

Markdown is easy to write but not always easy to picture — a table's column alignment, whether a nested list actually nested, whether that link syntax was right. Seeing the rendered result immediately, next to what you typed, is the fastest way to catch a formatting mistake before it ships in a README, a pull request description, or a wiki page.

This renders GitHub-flavored Markdown specifically (tables, `~~strikethrough~~`, `- [ ]` task lists, and bare-URL autolinks all work), the dialect almost every Markdown file on the web is actually written for today — not the plainer original spec, which lacks all of those.

Any raw HTML in the Markdown is sanitized before it's rendered, since Markdown is explicitly allowed to contain literal HTML and this tool has no way to know whether pasted content is trustworthy — a README copied from an unfamiliar repository, say. The preview is always safe to look at; nothing in it can run a script.

What you can use it for

  • Check how a README will actually render before pushing it.
  • Preview a table's alignment and a task list's checkboxes before committing them.
  • Convert a block of Markdown notes into HTML to paste elsewhere.
  • Sanity-check a pull request description's formatting before submitting it.
  • See what a piece of Markdown someone sent you actually says, rendered.

How it works, step by step

Grab the sanitized, rendered HTML to paste elsewhere.

Frequently asked questions

Does this support GitHub-flavored Markdown?

Yes — tables, task lists (`- [ ]`), strikethrough (`~~text~~`), and bare-URL autolinks all render, on top of standard Markdown headings, lists, links, and code blocks.

Is it safe to preview Markdown from someone else?

Yes. Markdown is allowed to contain raw HTML, so any HTML in the input is sanitized before the preview renders it — nothing in the rendered output can execute a script, no matter what the Markdown contains.

Can I get the HTML out, not just view it?

Yes — the Copy HTML button copies the exact sanitized HTML being rendered in the preview.

Is my Markdown uploaded anywhere?

No. Rendering and sanitizing both happen entirely in your browser.
