Countdown Timer – Count Down to Any Date and Time
Pick a date and time to start the countdown.
About Countdown Timer
Pick a date and time and watch the countdown tick down live — days, hours, minutes and seconds — updating every second in your own local time.
Knowing something is on the 14th is not the same as feeling how close it is. A live countdown turns an abstract date into a number that visibly moves, which is why they work as well for a launch or an exam as they do for a holiday.
The countdown runs against your device's local time, so it stays correct wherever you are and adjusts across a daylight-saving change automatically. Leave the tab open and it keeps ticking.
How the countdown behaves
The countdown runs against your device clock and is calculated from the target date each second, not from elapsed time. That is why reopening the page later shows the correct remaining time instead of restarting, and why a clock change during the countdown, such as daylight saving, is accounted for.
The target is read as local time. If you set 9:00 AM on 1 January, it ends at 9:00 AM on your device's clock, wherever you are. Two people in different time zones who both enter 9:00 AM will count down to different moments.
Counting down to a shared event
For an event with participants in several time zones, such as a webinar or a launch, agree on one instant and share it in UTC or in the organiser's zone, then convert it to local time before entering it here — the Time Zone Converter does this. Entering the organiser's local time directly would put your countdown on the wrong hour.
Limits
It is a live display, not an alarm: nothing sounds or notifies when it reaches zero, and it only runs while the page is open. If the tab is in the background, the browser may update it less often but it will show the right time as soon as you return to it. For a reminder that must reach you, use your phone's alarm or calendar.

Frequently asked questions
Which timezone does the countdown use?
Your device's local timezone. The target you set is interpreted as local time, so the countdown is correct wherever you are.
Does it keep running if I close the tab?
No. It is a live display rather than a background alarm, so it counts down while the page is open. It resumes correctly when you reopen it, since it is calculated from the target date rather than from elapsed time.
Can I count down to a time today?
Yes. Any future date and time works, including later the same day.
What happens when the countdown reaches zero?
It stops at zero and shows that the target has been reached.
Does it handle daylight saving changes?
Yes. It uses your device's calendar, so a clock change during the countdown period is accounted for automatically.
