JPG to PNG Converter
About Image Format Converter
Convert JPG/JPEG images to PNG — a lossless copy that won't lose more detail each time it's edited and saved. One file or a batch.
People usually need a PNG from a JPG for one of three reasons. A website, app store, or design tool asks specifically for PNG. The image is about to be edited several times, and every JPG re-save loses a little more detail, while PNG saves the pixels exactly. Or the next step — removing a background, adding a transparent layer — needs a format that can hold transparency, which JPG can't.
This page opens with PNG selected. Add your JPGs, convert and download: a single image comes back as a .png with the same name, several come back in a zip. Size and pixels are carried over exactly.
Two honest expectations. First, the PNG will be noticeably larger than the JPG — often three to five times for a photo — because it stores every pixel exactly instead of compressing them. Second, converting can't restore detail the original JPG compression already discarded; it only stops any further loss from here on. The PNG also won't have a transparent background by itself — the JPG never had one. To actually remove the background, use the Background Remover after converting.
The conversion runs entirely in your browser: nothing is uploaded, and there's no sign-up or limit beyond 50 images per batch.
What you can use it for
- Meet a PNG-only requirement on a website, app store or design tool
- Keep a lossless working copy of a photo you're about to edit repeatedly
- Prepare a JPG for background removal or transparent overlays
- Batch-convert JPEG exports to PNG in one go
Frequently asked questions
Why is the PNG so much larger than my JPG?
PNG is lossless — it records every pixel exactly — while JPG compresses photos heavily. A photographic PNG is often several times the size of the JPG it came from.
Does converting to PNG improve the quality?
No. It keeps exactly what the JPG already has and prevents further loss when you edit and re-save, but it can't bring back detail the JPG compression removed.
Will the PNG have a transparent background?
Not automatically — the JPG didn't have one to keep. Use the Background Remover on the PNG to make the background transparent.
Is my image uploaded?
No, it's converted on your device.
