Photo Duplicate Finder

About Photo Duplicate Finder

Add a batch of photos — or, in Chrome or Edge, pick a whole folder — and it groups exact copies and near-identical shots together so you can see what's duplicated. You choose which one to keep in each group; it never deletes anything on its own.

Most photo libraries end up with duplicates without anyone meaning to create them — the same photo synced from two devices, exported twice, or a slightly edited copy saved alongside the original. This tool compares every photo you add against every other one using a perceptual hash — the same one Photo Organizer already uses to catch burst shots — so it catches both byte-identical copies and photos that only look identical (a re-save, a small crop, a recompression).

Each duplicate set shows every photo in it, with the sharpest (or largest) one suggested as the keeper. You can change that choice for any group before continuing. Once you confirm, it builds a zip containing only the photos you didn't mark to keep, so you can look through them and delete the originals yourself, wherever they actually live — this tool only ever reads the files you gave it, it never writes to or deletes from your disk.

A batch of files works in any browser via drag-and-drop. Picking a whole folder in one step is a Chromium-only convenience (Chrome, Edge, and other Chromium browsers) — Safari and Firefox can still compare files you select by hand.

What you can use it for

  • Clean up a camera roll export that has the same photo saved more than once
  • Find near-duplicate shots after copying photos from more than one device
  • Check a folder for duplicates before uploading it somewhere with limited storage
  • See which of several similar shots is the sharpest before deleting the rest yourself

How it works, step by step

  1. 1

    Add your photos

Drag in files, or in Chrome/Edge pick a whole folder at once.

  2. 2

    Find duplicates

Every photo is compared against every other one using a perceptual hash.

  3. 3

    Review each group

Pick which photo to keep — a sensible default is suggested.

  4. 4

    Download the rest

Everything not marked to keep downloads as a zip, for you to review.

Frequently asked questions

Does this delete my duplicate photos?

No. It never deletes or modifies anything — it only groups duplicates and lets you download a zip of the ones you didn't mark to keep, so you can review and delete them yourself.

What counts as a duplicate?

Two kinds: exact duplicates hash identically (the same image, even if saved twice under different names), and similar photos are close enough to be the same shot re-saved, lightly edited, or recompressed. Each group is labelled with which kind it is.

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No — every comparison happens in your browser. Photos are read from files you chose; nothing is sent to a server.

Does picking a whole folder work in every browser?

Picking one folder in a single step needs Chrome, Edge, or another Chromium browser. Safari and Firefox can still select the same files by hand — comparing them works the same everywhere.

Is there a limit on how many photos I can check at once?

Up to 300 per run, which keeps a full folder-vs-folder comparison fast.
