Webcam Test – Check Your Camera Works
Your camera preview appears here. Nothing is recorded.
About Webcam Test
Tap Start and allow camera access. If the camera works you'll see yourself, along with the resolution and frame rate it's actually delivering. Switch cameras, mirror the picture, or save a snapshot.
A camera advertised as 1080p often runs at 720p in the browser, and a dim room can drop the frame rate from 30 to 15 frames per second, which looks choppy on a call. The test shows the resolution the browser is actually receiving and measures the live frame rate, so you can see what others will see rather than what the box promised.
If you have several cameras — a laptop's built-in one and a USB webcam, or front and back cameras on a phone — pick one from the list. The mirror option flips the preview the way most call apps show your own image; the snapshot is saved unmirrored, the way others see you.
The video is shown only on your screen. Nothing is recorded or sent anywhere, and the camera turns off as soon as you tap Stop or leave the page.

Frequently asked questions
The preview is black. What should I check?
Look for a privacy shutter or a camera switch on the laptop, close other apps that might be using the camera (call apps, the Camera app), pick a different camera in the list, and check the browser is allowed to use the camera in your system privacy settings.
Why is the resolution lower than my camera's rating?
The test asks for up to 1080p, and the browser picks the closest mode the camera supports over its current connection. USB 2.0 ports, poor light and some drivers make cameras fall back to a lower resolution or frame rate.
Why is my image mirrored?
Most call apps show your own preview mirrored because it feels natural, like a mirror. Other people see you unmirrored. Use the Mirror switch to compare.
Is the video recorded or uploaded?
No. The video stays on your screen; only a snapshot you choose to download is saved, straight to your device.
